*Much less than what all those messed up runs cost you!

I used to really struggle with mental overload during my runs. When running Beauvais, one of the fastest agility dogs in the United States, all my brainpower went into basics – running, following the course, and hopefully pointing at the correct obstacles. Forget the verbals! By obstacle number five, I was already struggling to remember what I called the next obstacle. A couple of obstacles later, all cues became “hop,” no matter if it was actually a jump or a tunnel. Left and right became interestingly interchangeable, and my overwhelmed brain decided to leave the ring and book a one-way ticket to a meditation retreat in the Himalayas to ponder its life choices. Oh well… I thought my brain just couldn’t process all the information at such speed.

Wrong. It certainly could. It just wasn’t used to it!

It took me quite a lot of unsuccessful runs to get frustrated enough to decide that there absolutely had to be a better way. I looked into other sports, did some research, and of course it turned out to be a learnable skill – exercises for the brain! I tried different ideas, refined them for agility application, and chose the ones that gave the best results.

Now I have a toolbox of techniques to get my brain ready for the run. Finally, the correct verbal cues pop into my head when I need them and I don’t end up with refusals and off-courses just because I can’t think fast enough. Since then, I’ve shared these techniques with other handlers facing similar challenges and got a lot of positive feedback – whether they’re running super-fast dogs like I am, or they’re unfocused due to stress, or even dealing with ADHD.

In this webinar, I’ll share with you the techniques I now use to stay sharp while handling my speedy beast on the course! Practice them and apply at your next competition for an immediate boost.
